Ali,
Let me first say one of my first computers was an AMD 486@100 mhz, my next was a Cyrix PR200.
I don't think MHZ sells is an absolute. There is a risk / reward ratio in everyones mind that I think comes to play. The perception I believe is AMD as a PLATFORM is less reliable. For everyone there is reliability to performance risk factor. For most computer ignorant or IT that don't want or can't have computer issues it's very low....buy the Honda!
I would not buy an AMD for my dad, he has no ability to fix common windows issues, has difficulties installing and using normal programs so I don’t want to complicate his life with other unknowns. As technical ability increases so does the risk / reward tolerance to go for performance. I would buy an AMD for myself...they are very cheap and pack a punch, but I can handle normal issues.

PR / model number doesn't matter. The constant dropping of major OEMS and lack of constant world-class platform support is the issue. AMD needs to make the average Joe comfortable about reliability, not just that he got system X for X amount cheaper.

Don’t think of your abilities, think of everyone else. Most people avoid hassle, only a few of us seek it out.

Ali,

re: "Around the globe, all people measure "MHz" in the same way"

And AMD is departing from this standard?
