I agree, sort of, but for me, even though I had bouts of making lots of money, for some reason I found it to be a decadent era. Cocaine was everywhere (even bush jr, admitted to doing a toot or two), I knew all kinds of people that went boom and bust, I don't know, it's just my impression of the time. The backdrop to our economy then was that there was an awful lot of U.S. backed terror happenning in the world. And then the decade ended with an enormous S&L debacle. I mean that was huge.
