IMO, when the US, and it's allies, attack bin Laden's al Qaeda group, they will be attacking a group that is responsible for terrorist attacks against India. Since they are using Pakistan as one of their bases for operations, against India, and against the free world, the US having access to Pakistan is essential. Do you want to US NOT to have some authority over Pakistan, during this war on terrorism?
