From my TGIF news summary this morning:
Afghanistan's Invincibility: Piercing the Myths

I thought this was illuminating -- anyone else read it...?

Yep, good one. Increases my respect for the LATimes. It's beginning to look as if I'll have to put its website on my late night trips to Slate and Salon.

Yes, and i read it again just to make sure I didn't miss anything. The author is welcome to go and kick the crap out of that disorganized, weak enemy. I'll stay here and wave him on -g-

There are 300k guys over the border in Pakistan, probably bored looking for something exciting to do.

Seriously though, I would hate to see any regular ground troops yet in that mine infested country...With perimeters to defend, and the press there egging them on to go and do something so that can film it.

If they are so weak, some Taleban bribes and the Northern Alliance can get the job done..

Maybe with a few USA "observers" watching and mixing in with the NA...armed of course..just in case.

Maybe call in a air strike or two

Gradualy build up a USA or UN presence that is fully "Afghanistized" to the conditions. May take years.

But if the recent news is true, maybe it will all be over quickly. I hope so.
