"You KNEW for sure he was lying????" You got me in the sense that I cannot know for sure. I will change my statement to I felt that it was VERY, VERY probable that he was lying. I based my assesment of this on my feeling that Clinton was pretty hip, and that a large majority of college students at that time had tried pot. I think there is a strong possibility that Clinton was one of them (and i hold nothing against him for that). Here are the possibilities, along with my thoughts on them. Feel free to add possibilities that I may have missed. 1) He never tried pot. If this was true (and I don't think it is), then he lied by saying he tried it without inhaling. 2) He smoked pot, but did not inhale (his story). My feeling here is that if you would try pot, it would be to see how it felt to be stoned. You must inhale (I have heard) for pot to take effect. If he tried it "just to look cool", you would fail, because it would look pretty dorky to the others you were with who would obviously know that he did not inhale (unless he was alone, which really would make no sense). If he did it just to look cool, he would have been lying in a sense to the people he was with. Just does not seem likely. 3) He smoked pot and inhaled. So what. Fess up, and offer your reasons why people should not do it (or say that it is ok, but that would be political suicide). So those are the possibilities that I see. I will watch myself with the concrete blanket statements like "I KNEW", because you are correct that I could not KNOW unless I was there. My logic and reason, combined with knowing and being around people that smoked pot in college makes me very leery as to somone like him that appears to like to have a good time "faking" smoking pot. A question for you. Why did you smoke "cartons of cigarettes" without inhaling? I've heard of and seen people smoke that did not inhale (and it was to "look cool" imo), but never heard of a regular smoker (200 cigs per carton x however many "cartons" you smoked) doing it. Usually were girls that thought for some reason that it was cool.
