Considering that almost every terrorist in Hollywood movies that reach tens of millions of Americans is from the Middle East, that nearly every report we see on CNN focuses on the violence perpetrated by Arabs on Israel (with rare examination of Israeli violence) it seems that a lot of media conditioning of American perceptions of Muslims has occurred.

As a hypothetical test, imagine before 9.11 asking a sample group of Americans to describe a "terrorist." My guess is the most poplar adjectives would be "Arab, Middle Easterner, Muslim, etc."

Speaking for myself, as someone who is aware of this conditioning, yet is still affected by it, and sees the stereotypes I have fallen prey to, I stand by my original post, but will modify it to," . . .even before 9.11 many Americans seemed to have developed this perception . . ."
