Hello, Sam. I trust you are well. Ref. yours "...Dostoevsky was, I think, the first penetrating analyst of this behavior, in fiction anyway (Machiavelli certainly knew how it worked as well, but wrote under different constraints).. Arthur Koestler updated him for the Soviets in Darkness at Noon, is there a correlate that you know of for the Islamic world?"

I am not a student of Islamic literature, unfortunately, however I am an avid reader of the Indian Urdu poets Mir and Sauda. The Urdu poet Mir, an Indian Muslim of the 18th century wrote: "...to save their souls they kill themselves with care. A Paradise like that can go to hell!" Mir's exlamaction point.

Presciently, Mir wrote about a moment in the 18th century that appears to today, "...the age is not like that which went before it; the times have changed, the earth and the sky have changed..."

Hope you are well Sam. I more than hope at this moment that in the United States that we address the formerly parochial interests of this country..... and give very careful scrutiny in the future to comparatively small groups of people, who have determined our nation's policies beyond this country's shores.

We should address global problems and global agendas with the first start at this being the next world population council meeting which should perhaps be held in Bombay in the middle of the monsoon in a bustee community to view the effects of population increments. These bustees are without power, or sanitation... it would be a good start for people of good to see how many of the world's people really live.

Best to you

Clark
