Do you feel this article from DEBKA has any merit?

He just forgot the thread's standard warning:

CAUTION: Unconfirmed item -- May be toxic BS.

:o)

Personally I think something may be happening with China but I doubt it like DEBKA is reporting. I think might be that China will line up some troops on the border to signal the world, "Hey this is our sphere of influence too. Don't forget about us." I also think they want to close the border to elements trying to leave Afghanistan and move into the islamic areas in western China.

China is, at the same time, both in favor of the US moves and concerned about US forces right smack in the middle of Asia. It makes them look a little like an also-ran in Asian affairs IMO and they cannot be completely happy about that.

They are also evaluating the reduction in forces in the Taiwan theater too. The departure of the Kitty Hawk is certainly interesting to them but do not forget that most if its planes stayed behind in Japan.

I had no clue who DEBKA was and their reputation which obviously precedes them. I posted it because I thought it was important if true. The thread has pointed out that DEBKA may not be a reliable source and therefore served one of its purposes, educating the uneducated (me specifically perhaps among others in this instance).

Debka stories may or may not have merit, but they should not be neither accepted at face value nor dismissed out of hand, as you are suggesting. Sort of like Drudge and the stains on the dress. I think we have to consider each story within the context of everything that is happening and ask ourselves if it fits. Here is a traditional reporter's take on Debka.
