Our nation (the Islamic world) has been tasting this humiliation and this degradation for more than 80 years.

A professor on ABC believes this is a reference to the establishment of the secular Turkish state by Ataturk. This was a stinging defeat of forces wishing to establish a single Islamic state and a moment in history bin Laden wants his audience to remember (and resent).

ataturk.com

Please remember, the very existence of a successful secular Turkey provides credible evidence that a separation of religion and state IS workable in the Islamic world and as such becomes a great threat to the Fundamentalist Islamic vision being pushed by bin Laden and his ilk.

Re OBL's video broadcast today. I'm more concerned now than ever that he already has a nuke that he's probably gotten through Iraq, is justifying its use, and is ready. He has a history of telegraphing punches in advance, not taking credit for them afterwards. The following excerpts from his statement worry me: "Millions of innocent children are being killed as I speak. They are being killed in Iraq without committing any sins, and we don't hear condemnation or a fatwa (religious decree) from the rulers.... When people at the ends of the earth, Japan, were killed by their hundreds of thousands, young and old, it was not considered a war crime, it is something that has justification. Millions of children in Iraq is something that has justification."

Pretty simple to understand really: <...To America, I say only a few words to it and its people. I swear by God, who has elevated the skies without pillars, neither America nor the people who live in it will dream of security before we live it in Palestine, and not before all the infidel armies leave the land of Muhammad, peace be upon him. >

It's interesting that Americans call Osama a coward and he calls Americans cowards. It's inaccurate to call Osama a coward. That shows a lack of understanding.

Osama is quite accurate and clear in his statements.

I would be very surprised if Saddam didn't have a hand in the destruction of the WTC and attack on the Pentagon, if only by way of funding. Saddam is in a fight to the death with the USA [which of course he thinks is great fun and it gives meaning to his life] so of course he will do things like destroy the WTC if he can, even if by proxy.

Saddam reportedly pays suicide bombers in Israel. He knows to create a scene in Israel to distract everyone from Iraq. He has done a good job over the past 12 years [from his point of view].

It really is amazing that many centuries later, here we are still in the midst of the crusades. As I grew up, I really did think that all that stuff and even WWII was weird madness from prehistoric times. Now I find myself enmeshed in the same madness, but with huge buildings and aircraft to destroy together, huge bombs, chemical, biological and cyberspace means of destruction.

What a nightmare!
