Well Nadine, secular regimes like Egypt and Jordan has going to have tough enough time staying in power as it is, without Israel providing the very ammunition OBL and the extremists desire to justify some "Jihad" against the Jews.

It may prove to be futile in the long run anyway unless there are substantial economic benefits to these nations encouraging people not to risk their lives trying to defend Arafat and his thugs.

Mubarak is going to face some tremendous pressure be take a harder line towards Israel and I can see the potential of the Saudi Royal family losing power.

If anything, the US needs Israel to delay any action against the extremists in the West Bank until this Afghanistan campaign has played through. But OBL knows that and his people will be trying everything possible to widen the scope of the conflict.

But I certainly see why Sharon feels like he's being set up to be the scapegoat.

Intelligence, intelligence, intelligence. Egypt, Jordan, Sudan, Iran, Russia, and Pakistan all have hefty dossiers on terrorists and their organizations in the region. And don't think the French don't know what's going on in what they still percieve as their own personal sandbox of Algeria! ;)
