He will get used to feeling the vibrations of his vocal cords and adapt. Maybe he will get implanted, if so he better be ready for the deaf community and it's radical wing. Some in the dead community consider cochlear implants a form of genocide. Rush would be a lighting rode for that debate.

p.s. I implanted my good ear, so I'm totally deaf now. Something weird has started to happen. When I was wearing my hearing aid I was apparently piping in sounds with my mind's ear. The reason I know this is that right after the surgery I was still hearing some sounds, but those sounds are starting to disapear slowly now. Another amazing thing that has happen is when my wife plays the piano and wrap my arms around it I can feel the tones much better then with my hearing aid, very odd sensation.
