That one's easy, Dot. We have the most foreign and domestic assholes per capita since we're the largest democracy on the planet. When people don't behave with respect to individual personal safety and right to property, we have the right to defend ourselves, we know it, we have the firearms, and we know how to use the firearms. Then we USE the weapons at our disposal, as you were nice enough to point out: we use them "civiliy". Sure there are accidents, tragic ones, ones that would rip anyones guts out that has an ounce of feeling... But there are volitional and deliberate defenses that don't get the press ink, but do get the "innocent nod" by the convened grand juries and the no prosecution by the District Attorney's in this great nation. And we don't stop and "merandize/ask the assholes if they own gold first." That ISN'T written in our law books as a requirment. Next silly question?
