Thanks. I generally think that those who will not pray for help for themselves or others are uncomfortable with any trace of supernaturalism, but I suppose that scruples about questioning God's will are another plausible objection......

I am a little uncomfortable with the petitionary prayer as well. I struggle with it a lot. Yet, I pray for things. Peace more often than anything else. I also pray for help with my personal struggles. When I pray for something I always add "if it be in the right path and if it be your will; if not please take my desire to have it and make me strong and thankful in acceptance of my situation."

People do pray for things that may not work out well and they get results. Of course God is not to "blame" for the results of giving us what is within our free will to seek. Free will comes attached to everything else like responsibility, rights, and ultimately the Merciful Judgement of God.

I find "Peace" in knowing truth and justice. If we hope for any support on the streets of the Eastern Hemisphere we would do well in presenting truth and justice in front of all our efforts and prayers against terrorism. This is at the pinnacle of Islam.

Afghan and Pakistan people of the street hold religion first, tribe second, and nation third. We are currently striking out with them.
