The Man-on-the-street owns his opinion more than any politician or religious spokesperson can ever hope to. We know more than anyone how easy it is to influence that opinion with the media. The gulf media is spewing all kinds of negative western images and portraying the terrorists as some kind of eastern robin hoods. We have the ability to influence the gulf broadcasters and we should. Freedom of speech doesn't mean that only our enemies get to speak; we can speak louder and longer than our enemies. We need to present some competing images of who we are. All by themselves bombs simply reinforce a negative image. You can command respect through the power of weapenry for a while but in the long run you have to earn respect. When hearts and minds see us as the decent human beings we are, then we will have accomplished that. If you think bombs and bullets are enough...I'm wasting my breath.
