What the hell are we doing helping Pakistan, when it is India that has been fighting terrorism in that region?

But quit blaming the poor CIA. They are just bureaucrats, not a rogue agency, no matter what you see in the movies.

I think you will find in the years to come that you are mistaken. My personal belief is that there are individuals within the CIA that are the enemies of America. An investigation will eventually show you who those individuals are. The terrorists knew the inner workings of how the President is protected and what code words are used. How do you think they knew that if not from the CIA?

I have never been interested in watching movies involving the CIA conspiracy theories. My opinions are based on my gut instincts and the evidence that we have seen even the U.S. government admit to in public.

I agree the CIA is severely under funded and has been for a long time because American politicians thought there was nothing in the world left to fear ... that is one of the reasons America was not properly protected.

America's biggest problem is not their foreign policy but their lack of a proper defense which involves well funded intelligence agencies. Intelligence is the best self defense against countries that export terrorism. You can have the best military weapons in the world ... but if your intelligence is lacking you'll just end up hurting yourself. You have to use the right tools to fight ... the weakest link for America at present is intelligence.

The CIA should be accountable for its actions, just like any other government agency. My understanding from, for example, theatlantic.com , theatlantic.com , and theatlantic.com .
is that the CIA is more incompetent than anything else. Note that the first two are credited to (former) CIA insiders. I think the CIA was too successful with covert operations for too long, and that plain intelligence has been too often a neglected stepchild. I think if the CIA wants to be part of the solution, it has to get its act together. The fact that after 20 odd years of random operations there, nobody at the CIA can speak Afghan languages is disturbing.

As for the oft repeated "Blame America first" complaint, it's a short step from that to the old "love it or leave it" line. We can't control what other people think of us, but we have a responsibility, as citizens in a democracy, to understand what our government is doing now, and has done in the past. American actions affect many things in the world, and policy makers in the past seem to have too often been playing a chess game where they were incapable of looking more than one move ahead. Material advantage isn't everything.
