I wouldn't give up hope just because Starband is having problems with one subscriber. If I were in your spot I'd see if Directv had internet service available. I have found them to be extremely reliable as a TV provider and I like the company. As you say, latency wouldn't be awful if you were getting 1.5 MBPS! (I get about 165 KBPS down with the cheapest level of DSL. Not lightning fast, but ten times faster than my "nominal" 56k connection which was good for about 15 kbps! )
