I would want the best people there. Period. In the several years prior to the first Space Shuttle launch I attended periodic conferences that brought together all the players from NASA, DoD and industry. These were huge week-long affairs. The focus was on the job and it was intense. No one, to my knowledge, was counting the color of noses. My son's first degree from UCLA was in the physical sciences. There were several thousand at the graduation ceremony. You might have thought you took a wrong turn and ended up in Hong Kong. Not a problem for me. I was ever so pleased my guy was smart enough and hard-working enough to be among the best.

So, let me get this straight, you consider the statistical distribution of ethnicities in a technology conference of no consequence at all. None. Zero. Zilch. I might not go quite that far but I would go really close. IMO the statistical distribution of ethnicities in a technology conference or in most others situations is of little or no importance. People should be treated fairly as people, not favored or discriminated against based on their skin color or birth place, except in a few very special situations. As an example a situation where ethnicity should be considered - Imagine that a police department or the FBI is trying to infiltrate and Asian gang. They might want to use an Asian person. Tim
