We saw what happened in Somalia Jim... They dragged that captured Army pilot's body through the streets and mutilated it until it was no longer recognizable... (and btw, coincidentally, Blackhawk Down! is due out in theaters pretty soon, and that will be a gruesome reminder)

We didn't have the stomach then, but I have a feeling we can handle it now...

But the question will be... Can those who commit these atrocities handle the repercussions...

Because the American "sleeping dragon" has awoken and is looking to spill the blood of those would threaten it and the stability of the world.

Hawk (and feeling more like one every day in which I am forced to remember those planes crashing into the twin towers)..

< the battle will contain a few critical junctures>

You're right, Jim. Regarding the under 35 generation: my son is 29 and before 9/11, regarded him as a gen x type with very little awareness of the world at large, and more specifically, not concerned unless things directly affected him or his wife. This whole experience has been an eye opener for him (and more so; me). I see him demonstrating a true love for his country.

I have a feeling that this is happening many times over with that generation you speak of.

but do so without enflaming the Islamic world

I think the Islamic world is probably more concerned about enflaming us than we are about enflaming them ... the smart ones are anyway. The longer and more vicious this war becomes the more they will suffer economically. What American company (or a company from any other civilized country) would put an office in or invest in an Islamic country if the image they get is that they are all a bunch of savages? No company that I know of would. The economies of Islamic countries will suffer for many years to come because any country with any sense will pull out their money from them. They will be worse off than they were before the war started ... for that they can thank Osama bin Laden. They want him dead as much as we do ... unless they're complete idiots.

Lola:)

if we see videos of throats being slit, heads severed

There are several Taliban execution videos(not of U.S. personnel) out there on the web. Trust me, the American public will not be seeing them if it happens to our soldiers.
