What would be obscene would be for collectivist thugs like you putting caps on what a, formerly, free people could earn.

People like Michael Jordan are paid roughly what they are worth to the team, in terms of the revenue their stardom generates through tickets, television rights, and other ancillary sales. Similarly, Michael Eisner is paid what he is worth to Disney, primarily in terms of stock value. If he were to leave, unless replaced by a comparable corporate star, shareholders would take a bath on share value, with an uncertain recovery. One can say it ia a matter of mystique, but so what? The economic effects would be real enough. Finally, sometimes there are disappointments or miscalculations, as when one hires a big star who is injured early in the season. That does not invalidate the system of negotiation......

"obscenity of corporate salaries/departure packages of the past five years or so"

I agree that there have been some golden parachutes that are pretty offensive. How do you want to regulate this? With government controlled salaries? What I do is avoid doing business with companies that have policies I don't like. In this case - don't do business with Bank One. I don't even use banks because they do not have the customer's needs in mind. Look through you rmiriad of choices when deciding who you will privilege with your business. Avoid the one's you don't like. Pretty simple.

Have I mentioned that you should fly Southwest?

"All I need to know I learned from my pals on SI."

Give me a little creidt for having ideas of my own. I have learned about some specific events on the thread here, and enjoy discussing and debating with others. But believe me, I was a republican before I ever even heard of SI. If you don't like my opinion, tell me why you don't and then I can see if your opinion can alter mine. Stupid statements like the one above don't get us anywhere, do they?
