Just to make this clear - I did not say that these things are part of Islam is general but rather expressed the thought that some people might unfortunately see it that way esp. because they lack any direct experience with Islam.

Personally I have very little direct experience my self I only have one regular 3d acquaintance who is Muslim but I'd like to think I have a fair amount of knowledge about it for someone who lacks direct experience and is not a scholar of Islam or Islamic history.

I'm curious about the correlation between Islam and third world status. Are there any modernized countries where Islam is the state's religion? I wonder if the vast poverty of Islam is a result of the more fundamental beliefs of the followers relative to the looser following of doctrine for Christianity and others.
