One last comment before I depart SI and log on to the P-D's Web site to read about the Cards-Snakes. Re: "Employees of today are mobile and empowered." Mobile? Yes. Empowered? I don't think so. In what way? What you just said, in my opinion, is a euphemism for saying, "When management screws up, the first thing we're going to do is slash the work force. Then we'll start over again." I'm not sure there are many employees out there who are mobile by choice. Times are different now. I understand that. People don't routinely sign on with the GM plant in Fort Wayne when they're 20 and retire at 60 with a gold watch anymore. My problem lies with Big Business's cavalier attitude that layoffs don't hurt working families. They do. They hurt very much.
