Let's look at the larger picture, Hawk... As you know, I'm a big fan of G. Orwell's 1984 novel <g>. That is, my edited version of it... Subject 33609 Eurasia --Russia, Europe and Israel-- are doomed to merge into a Fascistic juggernaut aimed at the Arab world. Of course, so long as the US agrees to play the anti-Arab bogeyman, Western Europe will be able to conceal her own closet anti-Arab/Muslim leanings behind the American showoff... Right now, what's going on in Afghanistan boils down to this: the Yanks are handling the dirty job ON BEHALF of the Russians who've no longer the military/political capacity to contain the spreading of Islam across Central Asia. Indeed, the US, on the whole, has basically NO PROBLEM at all with Islam, the Muslims, and Arab peoples... XXIst-century America has nothing in common with "Jim Crow" America of the 1950s. Yet, Europe, Russia, and your problem child Israel DO HAVE a problem with their Arab/Muslim neighbors. But, together, they just don't have enough geopolitical clout to reasonably cope with such a far-reaching, existential issue... Oh sure, there's always one way for them to deal with the "Arab question", just as, 60 years ago, Hitler and his Nazi gang also found out a "Final solution" to the Jewish question. To put it another way, we can see the present phony tug-of-war between the US and Bin Laden as follows: The US to Bin Laden: --"Stop messing around with your Islamic bullshit! You're gonna piss off the Russkies BIG TIME and snafu the whole region!!" Bin Laden to the US: --"To hell with you! I don't give a shit about those Russky bastards!! I WANT MY OWN ISLAMIC EMIRATE... NOW!!" The US to Bin Laden: "GODDAMMIT Bin!! those crazy Russkies will just NUKE the whole of you! We don't want a nuclear war between Pakistan and Russia! Sorry Bin, we warned you: from now on, you'll be America's scarecrow #1. Period." Got the picture?? In sense, the US are actually RESCUING Afghanistan! For, think about it, Hawk: the Russians masterminded the 911 terrorist plot (with some help from French and Israeli intelligences), all right. Just as they masterminded the Sept 1999 apartment bombings in Moscow, right? It conveniently served as a pretext for them to wipe out Chechnya... Now, how about this: in a coupla months from now, Moscow's TV tower gets hit by a suicide jetliner... thousands of Moscovite casualties, etc. What do you think will happen in Russia? Say uncle?? As I've said time and again: (Euro-)Fascism is just around the corner.... Gus.
