>> Diesels emit a lot of unburned hydrocarbons as particulates (soot)<< Huh, give it up Bud, your trapesing into fields that you know nothing about. Soot not unburned hydrocarbon, and exist as mostly carbon.

>>unfortunately - according to recent studies - soot of a very unpleasant particle size..<<

Why not link this study you keep quoting.

>>But diesels get more 'miles per gallon' than gasoline engines.<<

Huh? Where did you get this? It's not a true statement. Do you have any background in science at all besides your monthly copy of Popular Mechanics?

BK, In your attempt to sound serious, you are running off the road into a bar ditch of incorrect data. Even though diesel engines seem to be necessary to move cargo, it is very unpleasant to drive behind a bus, or semi, even with your AC on, and the windows closed. That same sensation is not present with SUVs. The only SUV that is a bit over the edge is a hummer stretch limo. Idiot engineers made the roads too narrow!!
