I don't think you know what kind of laws I'm talking about.
I'm not talking about stores.
I'm talking about actions that could not be taken on the Sabbath. There were lots of them. And you could be whipped or put in the stocks.

Aside from still having blue laws (and yes I CAN see the difference between them and the extent of the laws of the Taliban), and many, many "unwritten" religious laws that here that enforced by public humiliation and shunning. Some things are as simple as wearing all black. That's a no-no. Only Satanists do that according to "local unwritten law". But even unwritten law can be forcefully enforced. Kids who beat up kids wearing all black are congratulated, not punished. hmm. No, not the Taliban, but it could be. Only someone not vigilant and not determined to maintain their freedom would think otherwise in the deep, deep, South. I don't know about other places in the US. Is it better than it was? Yes. Are we done evolving yet? No, imo. And I've never felt sorry for X. I'm amazed you do. I can only think you feel testy today about something else to say such a thing to her?
