Other than to say that your reply is as disgusting as it is revealing of your little bigoted narrow mind, I have nothing further to say to you.

JC,

Before I begin, I made an offer to take a half hour or so of my time to help you understand why your post was offensive. The only thing that might ruin my day would be if you countered my honest response with snideness and an attempt to draw me into a conflict you are having with another thread member on this topic.

When sexual orientation becomes the defining characteristic of a human being something is very wrong.

Sexual orientation is a point of discrimination, derision and violence, sometimes death (see Matthew Shepard). It is those who believe that a certain sexual orientation is sinful, wrong, or just plain gross, who have elevated sexual orientation to the place where you describe in the sentence above.

If the first thing a person says is, "I am a homosexual," yes, I think there is something
definitely wrong with them.

I find this offensive. It shows me a lack of understanding on your part of the courage it takes to be out about one's homosexuality.

But that's the way you want to be
remembered for posterity? That's the most important thing you can say about yourself?

Also offensive. Again goes to your lack of understanding of the courage involved in being "out". Would it help to indert the word "black", "female" or "Jewish" here? When one identifies him or herself by a factor such as this, I draw a number of conclusions:

1. this person feels that this fact about him or her is a point of contention in society and feels that s/he has been discriminated against becae of it.

2. This person is making a statement that s/he is proud of this attribute and willing to discuss the issue.

3. This person has a certain degree of courage, to be willing to put themselves on the line for derision anmd attack, in the name of open discourse.

I guess I am totally out of it, because sexual orientation would not make the top ten on my own list. In fact, it wouldn't be on the list at all.

This is because you are heterosexual. Again, insert "female", "black", etc. in place of "sexual orientation.

Moreover, who gives anyone the right to dig into the sexual orientation of deceased people?

If one is of the opinion that sexual orientation is truly unimportant, one would not make this statement. This statement tells me that you may find homosexuality to be somewhat icky, something to hide.
