My understanding of Nietzsche's Last Man is a directionless individual who throws off the Slave/Master relationship, but becomes willingly subservient to society norms and flatter in exchange for self-preservation. Kind of the type of individual who would make up a Microsoft Corporate Dream Team -g- As he wrote, "Who still wants to rule? Who wants to obey? Both are too burdensome." I don't see how that applies to a "True Believer" like OBL who follows a twisted concept of a god all the way to extinction. When he wrote TSZ, Nietzsche did mean to allude to Zoroaster, who founded the monotheistic religion that you reference. But his writings on religious topics were mainly a response to Christianity. Right, that is what I was alluding to, that Zarathustra was just a metaphor of his anti-Christ, rather than a portrayal of the shadowy Zarathustra, if he even existed.Based on my reading, I think that he would have had high regard for the purist form of Judaism, for the reasons that you mention Not being Jewish, I don't know what type of purist Judaism you refer to, but I find it surprising that some of his writings would be consistent with Jewish traditions. I would think, for example, that he would have problems with Spinoza's rationalism. Also, I think Nietzche was anti-semitic and sexist as much as he was anti-christian. His sister may have distorted his writings, but she had a basis from which to write, and keep in mind that Nietzche wrote the following:Has my answer been heard to the question how one cures -- “redeems” -- a woman? One makes a child for her. The woman has need of children, the man is always only the means: thus spoke Zarathustra. On Wagner,For example, consider how he broke off his friendship with Richard Wagner after Wagner became a born-again Christian and started advancing anti-Semitic views. That is at least arguable. There were complex dynamics going on between Nietzche and Wagner, including whatever may have been going on with Wagner's wife. I might be all wet about this (probably am), but since the market is being so irrational, may as well discuss Nietzche.
