I agree, it's all silly. but it's the exercise that counts.

Discovering that ethics isn't private -- that it necessarily involves the interests and well-being of others, the question then becomes worth ASKING -- how do we figure this out? Ethics is NOT private, it's NOT just relative to what I happen to believe because OTHER PEOPLE (or beings) are involved. And off we go...

But once we understand this, then it's worth the effort to struggle and to argue.

I'm trying to explain this, not because I have all the answers, God knows. My main interest has always been to make sure that it's worth it to ask the questions about what it takes to be a good human being..
