Don't forget the elaborate ritual of hooking up. And the even more elaborate ritual of prostitution. And then there's lap dancing. And dirty dancing.

We want to have the best chance of mating and of offspring surviving. It is quite possible that overlaying "morality" on sex, as a concept, is merely an adaptive. As such, morality would simply be an adaptive behavior- which I think it probably is (and I've always said that). You can see types of behaviors we think of as "moral"- like mating for life- in other animals. No doubt it is as beneficial to their societies and offspring as it is to ours. Of course that type of pair bond isn't the only one that works, and in some instances it could be downright maladaptive- in such cases you see polygamy, and a different sort of "morality".
