limtex,

BTW what on earth is the point of having a data based PDA using GPRS?

How about accessing remote data using your PDA?

GPRS works fine for most of the things that PDAs are used for, and the "always on" connection is a big advantage over circuit switched GSM data.

Limtex,

<< BTW what on earth is the point of having a data based PDA using GPRS? >>

Since GPRS is packet data over GSM I'm not sure I understand the question.

HAND has had a GSM plug-in module for some time (using circuit-switched GSM):

cellular.co.za

My impression was that the GSM plug-in module was also available (or would be available) for circuit-switched CDMA, but I could be wrong.

More on the HAND Treo here:

BTW: First GPRS PDA to market is from Mistsubishi and based on Microsoft Pocket PC (CE). It has been on the shelves for several months in Europe:

wap.com

I had a demo of this device in London early September on BT Cellnet. It's pretty cool.
