Well Poet, I get my "intimate knowledge" of bin Laden's thinking ... by reading.

In a 1996 proclamation, bin Laden asked, O Lord, "shatter their gathering, divide them among themselves, shake the earth under their feet and give us control over them

Bin Laden has repeatedly described Americans as easily scared into submission

These from Time 10/15/01. Of course, I suppose I should now read something else to make sure I can believe Time. But then I would have to read something else to find out if ..... Anyway, since I do not spend nearly as much time here as you do, maybe I read more. Bin Laden has never tried hard to keep his thoughts a secret. (er, I got that from Time, also).

Right now, I am speaking for myself, J, Scarlett, and Melanie. I will agree to this change: "many probably thank you ...

How does X enter into this?? Now I am the one puzzled.

I am speaking freely, as I always do, and thank God for the sons and daughters of our nation who gave their lives to ensure my right to do.

JC

Our civil liberties are at a greater risk than they have ever been. They are not at risk because Osama Bin Laudin is threatening us, they are at risk because we are becoming afraid to question the actions and authority of our government representatives.

We now must take a breath and face the two threats (the one within and the one without) and stand up to both. The threat from within, as always, being the most daunting.

No we're supposed to have the rights, but for goodness sake have the decency not use them. Sounds kind of restrictive, don't it?

A right only matters when it can be used in an unpopular environment. I have a right to say that America's mission in Afghanistan is without flaw. I have a right to do what I am told. I have a right to not question anything. I have the right to be uninformed about the actual combat statistics.

I choose not to exercise these rights at this time.

It is not hard to champion free speech and still think the speaker vile. FWIW, X will believe in her country when it has undergone a fundamental identity change. But this is just my opinion. You may have a different opinion. Or no opinion at all. Depending on the X opinion.
