DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 5, 2001--i2 Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq:ITWO.Q), the leading provider of dynamic value chain management solutions, today announced that Tropicana has successfully used i2 Supply Chain Strategist to identify the efficiencies of combining the manufacturing and logistics networks of Gatorade and Tropicana's "hot filled" beverage products. Tropicana, a unit of PepsiCo, implemented i2 Supply Chain Strategist to model manufacturing logistics operations to include co-packer operations. The model involved over 30 manufacturing and distribution facilities and the seasonal demand of over 20 product types. Tropicana used i2 Supply Chain Strategist to execute hundreds of scenarios and sensitivities, producing data that provided insights into areas where the company could rationalize system capacity at manufacturing facilities and increase efficiencies within existing distribution and logistics systems. "i2 Supply Chain Strategist Solution was a key contributor in the development of strategic plans that will help Tropicana achieve the synergies and savings of our merger with Quaker Oats," said Rick Dobry, Sr. Vice President Operations, Tropicana. "We used this i2 tool extensively, over a very short time period, to discover areas where we could reduce costs and increase efficiencies within several significant units of our company." i2 Supply Chain Strategist is a scenario-based strategic planning tool designed to enable an organization to analyze strategic alternatives and make more profitable strategic decisions regarding physical plant locations, processes and transportation lanes. Supply Chain Strategist is designed to offer companies the ability to determine the optimal combination, location and association of facilities and processes, allowing managers to understand the total cost, profit and service trade-offs that exist between alternative network scenarios. "Supply Chain Strategist is designed to benefit companies by helping them reduce network costs through true global optimization," said Terry Turner, i2 senior vice president, Consumer Goods and Retail. "In this case, it afforded Tropicana insight into supply chain interdependencies so that they could quickly analyze changes and take advantage of the strategic opportunities presented in their merger with Quaker Oats."
