Frank, the principal use of silver is for photographic products. The principal use of silver in photographic products is in 35mm film. Kodak has just reported a drastic drop in revenue from 35mm film, which it attributes to the overall economy, rather than to the switch to digital. During the 3rd quarter that ended Sept. 30, sales of new digital cameras exceeded sales of 35mm cameras. Except for the throw away cameras (made for Kodak in China as well as in the U.S.), most analysts now agree that conventional camera sales will drop to near zero in the next two to three years. Film sales are also dropping, not because of the economy but because of the rapid increase in demand for digital.

My point was, and still is, for anyone willing to listen, that there is NO WAY that any other use of silver can possibly replace the loss in demand from photographic products. Anyone banking on an increase in silver prices over the next few years would be better off putting money into a savings account.
