If both parties really want to cut a deal, they can do so without going to the extremes.
It all depends on men. The real problem is that not many are of good faith.
If Israel occupies the West bank it will not diminish the tensions on the ground, nor bring a settlement any sooner. Even though a settlement can be reached at the height of paroxism, (the Kissinger doctrine), it should still better to do it at the present ground situation, IMO.
May be by next week, as/if the local fever diminishes, a debut in the whispering could be attempted. Let us not forget that the diplomats are talking to each other constantly, but that everyone is kept in the dark.
