Carolyn, what I've observed, after many years of chatting on SI, is the people who say they have no opinion about anything, and are self-proclaimed moral relativist, are the most opinionated posters around.

Although this war will ultimately be won on the battle field, the real struggle will be fought in the hearts and minds of the American people. Will we have the courage and resolve to stay the course and root out these fanatical murderers? Or will we instead be swayed by psuedo-intellectual leftists, who's loathing of our President, will cast doubts about the justification and moral rightness of our cause?

It's interesting to note, the people who are critical of President Bush's bombing, rarely talk about the murders which will be committed by the Taliban, toward the innocent people of Afghanistan if we don't act. It's as if in their mind, when America does nothing, everything will be safe and sound for the people of the region. In reality, doing nothing is doing something. It's a decision. We will have decided not to act with clarity and decisiveness. And not acting has consequences.

Wars have never been fought where civilian casualties didn't occur. Should we have never engaged Hitler, or the Japanese, because of the potential damage to innocent civilians? And if we had not acted then, what kind of a world would we be living in today? The answer is....we don't know. But we can make certain assumptions, and those asssumptions don't look very good in my eyes. It's likely millions more would have died had we not acted.

This event gives us a unique opportunity to rid the world of sophisticated terrorists hell bent on inflicting destruction on civilization. Left unchecked, this heinous act will no doubt be repeated. Can we really afford to allow that to happen? Can we really afford to allow peaceful civilizations around the world to be threatened by people who don't want to build anything, but simply want to destroy prosperity and progress?

Bin Laden and his followers are mentally deranged animals, who find joy in ramming planes into the faces of small children. You can't reason with pathological fanatics like that. The only way to deal with them is to inflict SO much negative damage on them, that they will think twice before carrying out another atrocity.

The past marxist Leninist leaders of the Soviet Union didn't stop their expansion at the borders of East Germany because they were intelligent reasonable people, who only liked the East German farmland or something. They stopped, because we had bombs and missile aimed at them, and they knew we would use them if we had to.

Unfortunately, it's now time to wake up the fanatical child murderering terrorists to that reality too.

Take Care,

Mike
