Frank,

When Phillips says Siebel's "jump" in CRM has eroded, I think he's referring to a difference in product functionality. That's subject to opinion and the opinion is best expressed by the customers. Even so, we know that customers make their purchase decisions based at least partially on many factors having nothing to do with functionality. That works to the advantage of the more robust product at times and to the advantage of the less robust product at times, depending on the situation.

For whatever reason, Siebel has been fairly consistently reporting that it has no competition in more than half of its deals. That number has been rising.

Analysts speculate every day. Aren't the four analysts that cut forward estimates to 45 cents speculating even though the ceo said he's comfortable with the estimates that were out there before reporting earnings?

When the ceo guided for 14 cents last July for this quarter and came in with 7, the analysts must be speculating that he's too optimistic again.

To do as well as previous estimates, sebl would have to make over 14 cents per quarter. This is despite the fact that research has shown that IT budget increases will be very small for next year. I'd say that the ceo is too optimistic in his speculation and the analysts may or may not be too low. But that's just speculation on my part, because in reality no one really knows.
