Stereos are a fine example of a stagnant market ripe for takeover by a post-desktop PC industry. What was the last innovation in stereos? The Compact Disc dates from 1981. In a market where "innovation" is measured in decades it's not surprising that upgrades are infrequent.

Because they don't have innovative companies like MSFT making DRAMATIC improvements every other year or two.

By the way, the PC is going to somewhat replace the stereo in the next 5 - 10 years.
