How is now different from 1989 in context to nation building, which the current administration says is necessary because Afghanistan cannot be allowed to fall into chaos. Chaos was okay for Reagan and Bush Sr. Bush Sr. is doubly at fault for not dealing properly with Iraq when he had clobbered the Republican Guard to its knees. He turned his back on Iraq and allowed its military to rebuild itself, not to mention the Kurds in Iraq who Bush called Freedom Fighters, but after the Gulf war turned his back on them too. The sucking action occurred in 1989, years before Clinton showed up on the scene.
