I did say Steel is way too LW even for me <g>, I can't say I follow all his thought patterns. IMO he's far too prone to see any anti-American POV, probably because you won the Cold War (and his former allegiance was proved to be completely misguided, not to mention far far worse...).

I do think he makes some very funny points between the venom, however.

On Chile, he'll be referring to Pinochet. Allende (democratically elected, under only moderately dubious conditions, but certainly socialist) is believed to have been overthrown with CIA connivance if not active assistance - Pinochet was a vile and murderous dictator in the fascist mould, but he was anti-Soviet... who cares if he ran death squads who killed anyone voicing or potentially voicing opposition, huh?

Lebanon? Do a quick search on Sabra, and see how many thousands of refugees in a secured camp were massacred by Israeli-backed militia there... then check who was the Israeli General i/c at the time :-(
No, the US should not be to blame for that. Only for backing him afterwards.
