If Msft didn't have a monopoly they couldn't have been accused of abusing it, now could they? And microsoft could have just shown they had no monopoly, end of case. Were they stupid to not use that as their defense? Why are they even still trying to figure out what penalties they will have if they weren't monopolistic?

And if Apple were so crappy, it would have withered and died.

The fact of the matter is that pcs are more prevelent because they had more software written for them than apples and they had better marketing and were cheaper to buy.

Come to think of it, I won't be surprised if it's APPLE that comes out with the holographic butler before a Windows based PC program.

Fortunately for Msft, it's not necessarily those who innovate who win. It's the one that can best market the product, even if it's not first to market.

James, porting Macintosh might or might not have been a good idea for Apple. There's no way to know for sure. But you can be pretty certain that doing so would not have broken MSFT's monopoly. See, that's why monopoly power comes with certain responsibilities, because it can be abused to prevent the success of other better products, like OS/2 or this hypothetical Mac port. That's why MSFT is in deep water now, and the only way they're going to get out is either to concede a lot of market power in a settlement or to hire flashy prostitutes for Bush's DoJ officials. Word on the street is that those guys are for sale, cheap.
