Tench, AMD could either just sell their chips with names based on the mhz. (Athlon 1333 or 1400 or 1533mhz), but then it gives the impression that they are slower then they really are. They could give them names that have nothing to do with speed (Athlon 4b, or Athlon 2001 or whatever) or they could do what they are doing now or something very similar, giving their chips a model number that has some relation to actual performance. Which of these things do you think would be best?

You have to ask that of Intel backers? Sorry for intercepting. First and Ten (pun intended).

Tim, <giving their chips a model number that has some relation to actual performance>

I would not mind at all if AMD came up with a clear standard of performance measurement. Heck, even something as simple as SPEC2000int would be fine.

It should be obvious why AMD is not coming up with a standard.
