I disagree the increased deficit spendig was coming at any rate. I say increased because despite of what they tell you the budget was never in surplus, except under the phony rules and definitions of the politicians. It may be higher because of 9/11, but it was coming. The biggest reasons for the increase are that Congress spent money on the belief that the economy would continue to grow at unprecedented rates which is just impossible, and the economic slowdown which reduced revenues to the government and the phenominal increase in the money supply which will eventually give rise to inflation.

They will play the blame game, but the truth is both parties and most of the Washington Politicos have failed to do more than lip service to control the budget.

On the other hand if Gore was president Sept 11 would likely not have occured as our President would not have been an isolationist
