I agree that the boards are often too chummy and not truly earning their keep, but I do not know enough about the inner workings of actual board rooms to know how bad the problem is. To some extent, though, boards are being paid as public relations vehicles, and it is always expected that they will rely heavily on staff. My main objection is the assumption that Big Business is particularly corrupt, say, as compared to government. Lest you think I am anti- government per se, I have had plenty of arguments with libertarians arguing that government works better and is less corrupt than THEY assume.......
