That's a real problem. Antibiotic overuse, and antibiotics prescribed for viral infections, is one reason there is so much antibiotic resistance today--leading to serious infections. The only reason to provide antibiotics during a flu is to prevent a secondary bacterial infection but I personally think that shouldn't be done; the abx should only be given IF the secondary infection starts. Basically antibiotics for flu are very expensive and dangerous placebos.
