ROFL, do people still use that as an insult? We only ever hear it from Aussies, and we only care about it then because they keep beating us at cricket <g> I'd have real trouble fronting a good case... I think it's hard to maintain furious indignation if you keep grinning...

Hearking back to the Pommie discussion, I'd thought that both Pommie and Limey came from the fruits English sailors used to ward off scurvy (pomme = apple). The POM explanation removes the need for French insults, though.
