The only way to end this war is for US and other ground troops to enter Afghanistan and directly assist local opposition groups to overthrow the Taliban.

But not having secure lines of communications from which to base such an incursion makes such a plan rather problematic. We can't rely upon Pakistan to provide such a capability, and any attempt to create an air-bridge into a captured airfield would only provide a limited capability to conduct offensive operations until sufficient logistics and equipment were stockpiled.

Imo, it will heavily depend upon how Pashtuns react to the execution of their leader. If they decides to launch a war of revenge against the Taliban, it could expedite matters for the US and place an important segment of the Afghani tribes behind US efforts. Or it could result in an internal power struggle that renders them confused and powerless at a critical period.

The key question is whether the Bush administration has the resolve to introduce regular US forces and British troops into the equation. Note that British troops will likely make up the largest contingent of forces, since they are already in place in Oman.

And you whine about everything. The first casualty is truth, you seem to want to make sure it's killed good and proper.
