I get the sense that the US has been trying to fight the war on the cheap using air power while the Afgahns -- both friends and foes -- do the dying.

This reminds me of the Vietnam war which began with a relatively small number of advisors and ended with half a million US troops on the ground and the heaviest bombing campaign ever. Looks like we may be headed down the same slippery slope again. Will public support hold under such a scenario?
