So your response to the sept 11 attacks would have been to commission a blue ribbon panel to study our dependence on middle eastern oil?? Yeah that would work <g>.

You haven't been listening to the program.

I believe in rational disengagement from what is bound to be a hopeless war of vengence and counter-measure.

- You mean turn your tail and run?. They attacked us on our soil. While you might be able to "disengage" yourself, personally, by leaving areas most likely to be targeted, we can't pick up and move NY, DC, LA, SF, SD, etc.

It ought to be apparent to the interested observer that even if we are lucky enough to eliminate the bulk of the Afghani Arabs and the Taliban, we certainly will have not ended al Qaeda or its ability to continue guerrilla harrassments within our borders.

-- Not a single source I've read or listened to has even suggested that, certainly not the Bush administration. They said it wouldn't, from the start. Just because you might not be up to the long struggle doesn't mean our country shouldn't struggle to preserve its way of life rather than bowing to terrorist extremists.

What I think needs to be discussed, and what isn't being discussed honestly with the American people by our leaders is whether or not our dependence on the resources of the Middle East, and Saudi Arabia in particular, aren't too large a cost for this nation to bear.

--First of all, this didn't start as an oil dispute, remember? It started as an unprovoked attack against innocent civilians, going about their daily business, on our own soil. Over 5,000 slaughtered as cleanly if they'd been walked into a Nazi gas chamber, just because they were who they were.

Why do you see everything in terms of our struggle to seize oil from everyone else around the world, and they're just defending their oil? We do like our cars, our homes heated, etc., and our population is growing -- partly because people from all over the world want to escape from crazy extremists elsewhere to come here and enjoy the fruits of freedom.

The blowback from our policies of meddling in the affairs of the Arab world need to be examined in the face of the increasing malaise of our economy, the increasing anxiety among our citizenry and the increasing futility of our denial that we're dealing with parts of the world that we simply ought to wall off from our national sphere of influence.

--Take a pill and relax.

. We'll continue to meddle in the region indefinitely because corporate interests will see it in their interest to do so.

--Don't know what your definition of "meddle" is. If it's sending forces to root out the terrorists and those who harbor them, absolutely, I hope. Meanwhile, do you consume any petroleum based products? If so, maybe you should vote with your wallet and stop.

Thanks for your suggestion that I serve as a process server, and your kind offer a plane ticket. One way, I presume. After reading about Haq's fate, however, I must decline the offer....

--No, I'm not like bin Laden, who believes in one-way airplane flights. If you successfully serve the legal process on bin Laden and get him to appear for trial, I'll also help contribute to a lavish vacation for you anywhere you'd like. But no 72 virgins, though.
