If I could take a guess, I would think at it's core it involves the destruction of the family unit as it is known in primitive cultures.

On could extrapolate on that to any end, but the long and the short of it is that Progress, modern thought, undermines the power of the central male figure in the household.

I have the same problem. Even today, my wife makes the small decisions and I make the big ones.

She decides where we will live, where the kids go to school, small stuff like that.

Me, I decide stuff like whether or not we will give aid to China. I make the big decisions.

That would surely be the topic of a book rather than a post, and is one I am certainly not qualified to write. The story is, I am sure, inextricably tied both to the decline and fall of the Ottoman Empire as well as the discovery of oil in the Middle East.
