I doubt that Toshiba is rethinking its joint venture investment in FlashVision, in which SNDK holds the other 50% share. There is plenty of documentation on why DRAM is no longer a profitable investment, and why DRAM producers are either getting rid of those plants or switching them to more productive chips, such as flash memory.

Now that flash memory chips are becoming available in sizes of 512 mb and larger, and are priced very modestly, the future trend is to replace hard disk drives in laptops and even in fixed units where high reliability and low current draw are priorities. I can't imagine a situation where a dominant company in the manufacture of flash memory chips would seek to leave the industry now.

BH - Herald Tribune on Saturday. Artcle about further dismal earnigns from Japanses biggies. Mentioned closing of semi plants. Said that business conditions unprecedented and no forseable recovery until some time after 2003!!!!
