Your response to 911 would be to let the airlines fail? If you think things are chaotic now can you imagine what they could have been like? How does an FBI agent who needs to be dispatched to timbuktu get there? Whether what was done is the right answer or the best answer I have not thought through but as an expedient I believe it was warranted..

"The buck stops here!" We all know what that means and why it is important in any organization and endeavor. It means leadership and responsibility. I am not happy that in this critical time for the US we have no leader. An experienced cabinet can try to fill the vacuum and they are acutely aware of the problem, but, ultimately, I think of the importance of Winston Churchill and FDR. Replace those two with George W. Bush, and I don't live to see my 3rd birthday.

KNIP, It is very telling to me that Bush is backing off his earlier support for federalizing the airline operation. Federal government can do good work even in agencies you mentioned in your post. We dont want our police to be privatized so i dont get it. What really pissed me off was the anti union comments by dick army. I am no fan of unions in general, but those cops and fireman who are my personal heroes for the remainder of my life are all union folks and they didnt go on strike on 9/11 or run from the building as dick army did. Shame on the republican right. They will pay at the polls and i hope that does not lead us to reactionary, welfare state democrats at the helm. DOESNT JOHN MCCAIN LOOK LARGER THAN LIFE EACH TIME HE SPEAKS. THERE IS AN ESSENTIALLY CONSERVATIVE GUY WITH FINE INSTINCTS, MUCH LIKE ME <ggg>. MIKE@calmerthanever.com
